“(…) when you eat and are satisfied, be careful that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery” Deuteronomy 6.11-12

Beloved ones,

That warning was meant for children of Israel who used to be slaves in Egypt and who accessed freedom thanks to the powerful and working hand of the Lord. And yet in the wilderness, God fed them to repletion to the point that they lacked nothing. Generally, it is in abundance times that people give themselves myriads of reasons to forsake the Lord.

God himself was astonished by that behaviour and said: “(…) I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me” Isaiah 1:2

We as well are prompt to forget God’s good works toward us and yet, generation after generation evil that has been done to us remains fresh in our memory.

Forgetting God in the middle of abundance and even in misery is dangerous for you. Under no circumstance shall a child forget, forsake or reject his father. Maybe you feel forgotten and abandoned by the Lord of hosts. No, it is enemy and the weight of your suffering that lead you to draw that quick conclusion. Here is what the Most High declares “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.” Isaiah 43:2

You went to school with many other people who even happened to be more brilliant than you but thanks to the grace of the Lord you succeeded; you are currently working abroad in international institutions with a material situation that is over the average and you are probably covered with honour, sitting in the middle of high rank people. May I encourage you to humbly recognize that this is as a result of God’s work! Therefore refrain from forgetting the Lord to the point of not observing his commandments, ordinances, advice and laws. Acknowledge his hand in your life and be careful not to say in your heart: “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.”

I urge you not to join the group of those who think today that they are masters of their riches to such a point that they no longer pay their tithes or support orphans, widows and the poor. I urge you to be different and not to forget the Lord but rather to make him a friend, a wonderful advisor and the road companion
